ICON had such a good story about affordable housing and they built a number of homes in developing countries but it seems investors are now ready to extract some dollars with homes in Georgetown on the market for $550K and >$275/sq.ft. In their 2024 presentation at SXSW they claimed to build walls for less than conventional homes. Where are the $250K starter homes in neighborhoods with good schools for young families? Great marketing and a convincing CEO but the holes are priced out of reach for many who expected the company to deliver on their promise of bringing affordable homes to Austin.
